I wasn't always a fan, truth be told there are quite a few options in the area for ice cream and I usually would pick elsewhere. That is to say until this past weekend. I was left baby sitting my mom's dog and in need of ice cream, Custard and Co was a quick and easy trip. I have to say I'm glad I gave them a second chance, not only did I enjoy the ice cream but the staff was very friendly and professional. If you plan on sitting down to enjoy your treat be prepared to walk since they don't have any seating area and the neighbor's wall is usually already.

I moved to Florida but this is my first goto place besides coney island!!!! I love the thick creamy custard the taste is amazing! It's my naughty guilty pleasure!!! The sugar free selection is also fantastic!!!

My favorite frozen custard place. Whenever I come back to Detroit, I get frozen custard with fudge, pecans, caramel and whipped cream. It's a particular kind of sundae but I'm not sure (Turtle?). DELICIOUS.

Have been here many times and I consider their custard some of the best I've had anywhere. Can't speak much about their other items, as we always get custard! I disagree on another comment that there is no difference in quality/taste versus other custard places. Theirs is definitely better. Definitely worth stopping if your in the area.

My Reese peanut butter cup swirl was simply vanilla ice cream with crumbles on top. Horrible for a $4 small.

Love this place! Always fresh and yummy, service is always great also! Love the location also as we can ride our bikes then watch all the classic cars drive by.

Okay, I gave this place another try and wasn't wow'd. I guess one thing I did realize is maybe I'm not a custard type of gal. I got brownie bites and sprinkles with my small custard and was turned off by the brownie bites. It was a bit too chocolately for me. I guess I was expecting more a fresh taste to them. I'll probably stick with regular ice cream my next trip back...

Stopped by after dinner. Seems like there's always a line outside custard stands around here. Got one plain and one w/ oreo crumbles. Love the creaminess over the standard ice cream, but that's more a review of custard... We've been to a couple other spots, and can't really see a difference in quality/taste. Your choice of custard is probably dependent on location rather than taste.

Delicious and the perfect treat! I hadn't tried custard before and I really love the texture and sweetness. The creamy smoothness added with toppings, my fave being the Mudslinger, is a great combo. They have great hours, open pretty late everyday, and great customer service. They don't take Amex FYi and credit cards require a $5 minimum.

This place is an institution in my little bubble that I like to call "Sala's World" (similar to the popular 90s animated TV series starring Howie Mandel, 'Bobby's World'). Sure- there are tens of soft serve joints in the area you could choose, but don't risk it - come here, because it's my favorite. When describing it to newcomers I say it is soft serve only way richer, and way creamier. And there is plenty of stoop space outside to relax as you watch douche bags rev their engines on Woodward - that's pure Michigan folks. I am proud to call Custard & CO (honestly had no idea this was the name before I searched it to review, I normally just refer to it as "custard place") MY random frozen shack place of choice!

Not impressed with this place at all. Came here last night to switch it up since we usually go to Dairy Deluxe. I don't do the custard thing but my hubby wanted to try it. He got a vanilla/chocolate custard and I got a vanilla yogurt. The vanilla yogurt was terrible...tasted like chemicals and it was just not fresh tasting at all. Not to mention they didn't have vanilla/chocolate twist yogurt...they only had orange...really?? Orange?? Disgusting. I hoped my hubs would at least love his custard but he hated it. He said it was just like eating a really thick mousse...it wasn't even that cold! It was just kind of strange. I've had great custard before (Bob Jo's) and this was not it. Finally, a medium custard and small yogurt ran us over $6....wtf??? Waaaay too much money for subpar product in my eyes. Will not be returning - EVER. Dairy Deluxe, I missed you last night!

Let me preface this review by saying the custard here is good but there in nothing here deserving of more than 3 stars. It's a typical frozen custard shack with typical employees delivering a typical product. Again, nothing really negative here, just nothing outstanding either.

I always get a chuckle out of the sign, "hey, I'm going to Frozen Yogurt Custard Dairy Custard Cup!" haha This place is the bomb and always has been. My late Father took me here years ago to show me what real frozen custard taste like, not that soft serve junk. I explained that I was on a diet and asked what the most popular frozen yogurt item on the menu was and was told to order the Custard, that's why most people come here. LOL. but the frozen yogurt is pretty good too, the gals at the window are always friendly and helpful. This is the Dairy place I choose over all the others on Woodward, it's the best. And they take credit cards

Delicious custard. Two major downsides in my book: 1. Lack of outside seating or shade. I'm sure its fine on mild days but on hot sunny days there is a total lack of anywhere to relax and eat your custard out of the blazing sun. 2. My favorite custard place in Boston - Abbots - has all sorts of flavors of custard so being new to Michigan I was disappointed to find only chocolate and vanilla ....not sure if there's a place in this area with more custard flavors but I would have liked the variety.

so good! what's not to like? classic frozen custard is definitely the star here. tons and tons of menu items, sweet concoctions and drinks!

I wish I had never, ever, had my first bite of this yummilicious frozen custard !! It's a source of constant cravings ....limited to once a week...so good!!

I should say that my expectations were low when I went here since the Erma's frozen custard I grew up with in Shelby Township is on such a high pedestal. I can say that the chocolate is 99% just as good as Erma's and I was very impressed in how similar it was. I would not say it was better but it was just as good, I am not sure I could tell the difference in a blind taste test. If you are in the RO, Berkley or Birmingham area and want good frozen custard, this is a great spot to stop on woodward and cool down. I recommend going on a weekend night in the summer when people are cruising, you can't beat it.

Absurdly good! There's something hypnotic about the cold, smooth, buttery texture and clean flavor of frozen custard. It's delicate, creamy, melts on your tongue, and is just like...like...I'm having trouble thinking of non-sexual metaphors. Just go here. Ignore the other walk-up ice creameries on Woodward (there are at least 4 others). Cash only -- I think. Smalls run under $3, and you get a ginormous amount.

After previously having an apartment that was walking distance from Erma's in Shelby Township, I was worried that I would never find a custard spot near my new home in Royal Oak. Then my boyfriend brought me to Custard & Co. I was NOT disappointed! This place is great! They get pretty busy on nice evenings, but the employees keep the line moving at a great pace. The do except credit cards now too which is nice, since a lot of custard and ice cream places don't. I do have one request if the owners or managers see this.. FRUITY PEBBLE CEREAL!!!! I once went to a custard shoppe that had this as a topping option. It is so delicious on vanilla custard.

As far as my wife and I are concerned, ice cream and custard need to be in their own food group! Given this opinion, we have tried and consume a large amount of ice cream and custard every year, especially in the summer! In my opinion, Custard & Company has the hands-down best custard in the area. And believe me, we've tried just about all of the places around Royal Oak, Ferndale, and the surrounding areas. Portions are huge. Custard is amazing! Plus it is right next door to Al's Famous Deli, so you can get dinner and dessert. Just about the only thing that Custard & Co doesn't have that knocks my socks off is the butterscotch dip. So if you're in the area and you're looking for the best custard you can get, Custard & Co is the place!

Considering there is always a line (a quick moving one) I am surprised that there is only 3 reviews. This seems to be a very popular place for Birmingham families coming from swimming (somewhere nearby - perhaps Heart of the Hills?). It's clearly a local favorite. I think this custard beats Bob Jo's in Wyandotte hands down. If you are looking for REAL CUSTARD this is the place. I haven't had their frozen yogurt, so I can't comment on it. The vanilla custard actually tastes like vanilla and has that chewy/creamy thick sort of texture that I love about custard. I'm on somewhat of an ice cream kick lately and my waistline probably wishes that Custard & Co wasn't so close to me! Oh and to add to a previous reviewer's comment - they DO have butterscotch dip (and chocolate or cherry). They also accept credit/debit over $5 (the man in front of me last night asked). Yum!

Oh. My. God. Frozen custard is basically the best thing I've ever had in my mouth. Let me start by saying that I before I had my first frozen custard from Custard and Co, I thought it was just like soft serve. I could not have been more WRONG! It is amazingly, ridiculously, absurdly DELICIOUS!!!!!! I made my husband drive through official Dream Cruise traffic to get a vanilla custard hot fudge sundae as my dinner! Oh lord, imagine what my cravings will be like when I am pregnant??!?! The whole family is sooooooooooooo sad that they are closed for the season (mid October, a bit early in my opinion). I drove by the other day just to make sure they were in fact not open. Sad face. But, I will begin stalking them in the early spring, don't you worry. Must....have....CUSTARD! Edit: minus one star. Where did the nice employees go and why have you replaced them with cranky ones????
